Some thoughts on Ahmadinejad's appearance at Columbia

What do I think about Columbia giving Ahmadinejad a forum yesterday? I think it's proof that America is a great place, a place where we aren't afraid of words, a place where we believe that the best argument will carry the day, a place where we can give a murderous lunatic a public forum because we know sunlight is a fine disinfectant.

Oops. Did that sound a little liberaly? I agree. It is liberaly, and in the finest traditions of western civilization. Which is why I was more than a little surprised to hear that precise sentiment exit the mouth of president George Walker Bush.

PS: All honor to Columbia president Lee Bollinger who did not pass on the chance to give Ahmadinejad a public beating.
